What is the difference between the Esri Training site and Esri Canada training?

Esri Academy

The Esri Training site, also referred to as the Esri Academy, provides a single, searchable catalogue of learning resources in different formats including web courses, tutorials and MOOCs. Certain resources are freely available or simply require an ArcGIS Online account.

You will have unlimited access to all e-learning content, such as self-paced web courses, through your ArcGIS for Student Use subscription.

Instructor-led Training

Esri Canada offers 1-, 2-, or 3-day instructor-led training courses that include lectures and hands-on exercises. You may take up to two standard training courses from Esri Canada and should plan to do so within a year of being nominated for the scholarship.

Licenses and Subcriptions

You will receive the following software for education and research use. Use of the software for commercial or revenue-generating purposes is not permitted.

  • A three-year term license of ArcGIS for Student Use, which includes:
    • ArcGIS Online with GIS Professional Advanced User Type and 1000 Service Credits
      • ArcGIS Pro Advanced Named User license
      • Essential Apps: ArcGIS StoryMaps, ArcGIS Experience Builder, ArcGIS Web AppBuilder, ArcGIS Dashboards, ArcGIS Instant Apps, ArcGIS Hub Basic, ArcGIS AppStudio
      • Field Apps: ArcGIS Field Maps, ArcGIS Survey123, ArcGIS Workforce, ArcGIS QuickCapture
    • ArcGIS Pro Extensions: ArcGIS 3D Analyst, ArcGIS Data Interoperability, ArcGIS Data Reviewer, ArcGIS Geostatistical Analyst, ArcGIS Image Analyst, ArcGIS LocateXT, ArcGIS Network Analyst, ArcGIS Publisher, ArcGIS Spatial Analyst, ArcGIS Workflow Manager
  • A three-year, Professional-level ArcGIS Developer Subscription (ADS), which includes an ArcGIS Developer account (Creator user type) with free tier access to location services, ArcGIS Enterprise for development purposes, ArcGIS CityEngine, and access to developer tools and resources.

Scholarship software is not connected in any way to your institution’s licenses. You will be sent information on activating and accessing their software. You will need to have or create an Esri Account to activate your ADS through My Esri.

Term End

For 2024 scholarship recipients, the three-year term will end June 30, 2027, regardless of when the licenses are activated or first used. If you are nominated and complete the requirements (i.e., submit your poster) earlier in 2024, you will benefit from an extended license period.

If you already have a license, for example, an ArcGIS Online account from your institution, you may continue to use that license or replace it with the scholarship license, but the term end date will not change.

License Renewal

At the end of the term, you will be able to renew your ArcGIS for Student Use license and ArcGIS Developer Subscription at the regular annual subscription fee to maintain access to the software and any content you create online.

Will the posters be displayed anywhere?

Published 2020/11/27 by

At the present time, the scholars portal is the only place where posters will be displayed. A small number of posters may be displayed at Esri Canada User Conferences once in-person events resume.

You are strongly encouraged to upload your poster to your profile.
