Scholarship recipients have access to both self-paced and instructor-led training.
Esri Academy
The Esri Training site, also referred to as the Esri Academy, provides a single, searchable catalogue of learning resources in different formats including web courses, tutorials and MOOCs. Certain resources are freely available or simply require an ArcGIS Online account.
You will have unlimited access to all e-learning content, such as self-paced web courses, through your ArcGIS for Student Use subscription.
Instructor-led Training
Esri Canada offers 1-, 2-, or 3-day instructor-led training courses that include lectures and hands-on exercises. You may take up to two standard training courses from Esri Canada and should plan to do so within a year of being nominated for the scholarship.
Note that the Esri Academy catalogue also includes instructor-led training offered by Esri and may be used to identify courses you are interested in, but the Esri Academy training is not included in the Esri Canada scholarship.

Licenses and Subscriptions
As a scholarship recipient, you will receive the following software for education and research use. Use of the software for commercial or revenue-generating purposes is not permitted.
- A three-year term license of ArcGIS for Student Use, which includes:
- ArcGIS Online with Professional Plus User Type and 1000 Service Credits

- Installation support, software updates, and unlimited access to e-learning courses through the Esri Training site
- A three-year, ArcGIS Developer Bundle subscription, which includes:
- ArcGIS Enterprise with set number of user type licenses (Viewer, Creator, Professional, Professional Plus) and user type extensions. All user types include web and mobile apps. See User Types to License ArcGIS | Named User Licensing for current list of included apps.
Scholarship software is not connected in any way to your institution’s licenses. You will be sent information on activating and accessing their software. You will need to have or create an Esri Account to access the Developer Bundle products and authorization codes through My Esri and will need to set up your own ArcGIS Online organization, following the instructions provided, to access ArcGIS Pro and the other applications included in the Student Use license.
Term End
For 2025 scholarship recipients, the three-year term will end June 30, 2028, regardless of when the licenses are activated or first used. If you are nominated and complete the requirements (i.e., submit your poster) earlier in 2025, you will benefit from an extended license period.
You may choose to continue to use the license from your institution as long as you remain a student, rather than replacing it with the scholarship license, but the term end date for your scholarship license will not change.
License Renewal
At the end of the term, you will be able to renew your ArcGIS for Student Use license and ArcGIS Developer Bundle at the regular annual subscription fee to maintain access to the software and any content you create online.
Additional credits may be purchased at any time through the Esri Canada Store.

The scholars portal is the primary place where posters will be displayed. You are strongly encouraged to upload your poster to your profile.
A small number of posters may be displayed at Esri Canada User Conferences or at the biennial GIS in Education and Research Conference.
The scholars portal is also the primary place where story maps will be shared. A collection is usually created each year to showcase the story maps submitted by scholarship recipients.
