Licenses and Subcriptions
Each scholarship recipient will receive the following software for education and research use. Use for commercial or revenue-generating purposes is not permitted.
- A three-year term license of ArcGIS for Student Use, which includes:
- ArcGIS Online with Professional Plus User Type and 1000 Service Credits
- ArcGIS Pro Advanced Named User license with ArcGIS Pro Extensions (ArcGIS 3D Analyst, ArcGIS Data Reviewer, ArcGIS Geostatistical Analyst, ArcGIS Image Analyst, ArcGIS LocateXT, ArcGIS Network Analyst, ArcGIS Publisher, ArcGIS Spatial Analyst)
- ArcGIS web and mobile apps (ArcGIS StoryMaps, ArcGIS Experience Builder, ArcGIS Dashboards, ArcGIS Instant Apps, ArcGIS Hub Basic, ArcGIS Field Maps, ArcGIS Survey123, ArcGIS Workforce, ArcGIS QuickCapture, ArcGIS Web Editor, ArcGIS Data Pipelines, ArcGIS Image for ArcGIS Online, and others)
- Additional premium apps: ArcGIS Business Analyst Web App Standard, ArcGIS Insights, ArcGIS Urban
- ArcGIS CityEngine Named User license
- ArcGIS Living Atlas of the World
- Installation support, software updates, and unlimited access to e-learning courses through the Esri Training site
- A three-year, ArcGIS Developer Bundle subscription, which includes:
- ArcGIS Enterprise with set number of user type licenses (Viewer, Creator, Professional, Professional Plus) and user type extensions. All user types include web and mobile apps. See User Types to License ArcGIS | Named User Licensing for current list of included apps.
Scholarship software is not connected in any way to the participating institution’s licenses. Information on activating and accessing their software will be sent directly to the scholarship recipient. They will need to have or create an Esri Account to access the Developer Bundle products and authorization codes through My Esri and will need to set up their own ArcGIS Online organization, following the instructions provided, to access ArcGIS Pro and the other applications included in the Student Use license.
Term End
The three-year term for 2025 scholarship recipients will end June 30, 2028, regardless of when the licenses are activated or first used. Students who are nominated and complete the requirements earlier in 2025 will therefore benefit from an extended license period. If a scholarship recipient already has a license, for example, a Named User license from their institution, they may continue to use that license or replace it with the scholarship license, but the term end date will not change.
License Renewal
At the end of the term, scholarship recipients will be able to renew their ArcGIS for Student Use license or convert to an ArcGIS for Personal Use license at the regular annual subscription price and will have the option to pay the regular annual fee to maintain their ArcGIS Developer Bundle. Additional credits may be purchased at any time through the Esri Canada Store.

The scholarship award offers a one-time cash payment for the individual student selected by each participating institution along with software, books, access to e-learning courses through the Esri Training site, and Esri Canada instructor-led training.
Prior to the pandemic, it also offered complimentary registration at one of Esri Canada’s User Conferences. Although in-person events have resumed, the format, locations and timing of regional user conferences have not yet been decided. The scholarship award for 2025 includes complimentary registration for the 6th biennial GIS in Education and Research Conference, which will be held in October 2025 at Hart House, University of Toronto. Students will be informed of other networking opportunities that may arise.

The Esri Training site, also referred to as the Esri Academy, was launched in August 2016. It provides a single, searchable catalogue of learning resources in different formats including web courses, tutorials and MOOCs. Certain resources are freely available or simply require an ArcGIS Online account.
Unlimited
access to all e-learning content, such as self-paced web courses previously
available through Esri’s Virtual Campus, is provided through a current

Two Esri Canada instructor-led, standard training courses are included in the scholarship award and are to be chosen by the award recipient. The list of available courses can be found at learn.esri.ca. The courses will be provided via Esri Canada’s virtual classroom.
Students must take the training courses within 12 months of being nominated for the scholarship unless arrangements for an extension are made with the Scholarship Coordinator before that date.
