About Me
Laura is a glaciologist working with Dr. Gwenn Flowers to assess the changing thermal regime of mountain glaciers in the Canadian high Arctic using a combination of field observations and modelling. At White Glacier on Axel Helberg Island, Nunavut, Laura leads the mass balance monitoring program and field-based measurements of ice velocities and elevation change. During her doctoral studies at the University of Ottawa in the Department of Geography, Environment, and Geomatics, she used Structure from Motion mapping methods to create new glacier DEMs for comparison with historic maps to assess the stability of the response of this glacier to enhanced Arctic warming.

In my own words...
The Esri Canada Scholarship not only provides students with valuable resources and networking opportunities to broaden their GIS skills, but also demonstrates a level of support and community that encourages future pursuits in GIS. I feel very grateful to be part of that community as a scholarship recipient and am excited to make the most of what this opportunity provides in terms of software access and training opportunities.
