About Me
I am currently a Ph.D. Candidate in the biology department at Memorial University of Newfoundland. I'm in the Landscape Ecology and Spatial Analysis lab (https://nllandscapeecology.com/) under the supervision of Dr. Yolanda F. Wiersma. In addition, my research project is part of a collaborative effort between three labs at MUN; Dr. Shawn J. Leroux Ecosystem Ecology lab (https://shawnleroux.wixsite.com/lerouxlab) and Dr. Eric Vander Wal Wildlife Evolutionary Ecology Lab (https://weel.gitlab.io/); this collaborative project is known as the Terrestrial Ecology Research Group (https://terrestrialecologyresearchgroup.weebly.com/). My research is focused on interrogating the spatial variability of foliar traits; stoichiometry C:N, C:P, N:P and phytochemistry.  Understanding the drivers of foliar trait distribution and abundance will potentially inform herbivore behavioural patterns as foliar stoichiometry is a direct measure of energy returned through consumption and phytochemistry determines the palatability and digestibility of foliar material. Thus the spatial variability of these traits may explain landscape level browse patterns of two dominant herbivores in boreal forest systems, moose (Alces alces) and snowshoe hare (Lepus americanus). Using these measures I can construct novel landscapes showing the spatial distribution and abundance of forage resources.

In my own words...
The Esri Canada scholarship allows me to continue using Esri technology in my research, as well, access to training exercises will keep me up to date on spatial analyst processes and techniques - these skills are critical not only for my research but also for potential career trajectories.
