Currently Colin Simic is completing his last term as a full-time student in the Master of Planning program at Dalhousie University located in Halifax, Nova Scotia. As a long-term student, he first developed an early interest in planning while completing his undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto (U of T) where he majored in Urban Studies, Criminology and minored in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). It was there where he developed a passion for community health awareness, with a focus on spatial and sustainable planning practices. Acquiring planning experience and skills through an extensive course list at Dalhousie University has supported Mr. Simic€™s development and strong skill set in project management, design, cartography, and public engagement. Although Mr. Simic€™s background and interests brand him as an urban planner, he also considers himself a skillful Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Technician. Using GIS within past and present planning projects has aided his visual rational and creative solutions for spatial planning problems. As such, he has produced multiple 2D and 3D design concepts, plans, and models for the public, academic, and non-for profit sector of Nova Scotia. With a desire to incorporate technology into sustainable planning practices, Mr. Simic€™s skills and knowledge have consistently evolved throughout his undergraduate and graduate degree. Upon completion of his graduate degree in June of 2016, Mr. Simic will be looking to apply his skills and knowledge to an organization that works extensively with promoting efficient, affordable, and healthy spaces for people of all ages.
