Hello, my name is Christine Green and I am a recent graduate from the Environmental Studies program at Wilfrid Laurier University (WLU). In addition to my degree, I also graduated with a Geomatics Option and a Co-op Option. I was hired as an Environmental Assistant with the Ministry of Transportation Environmental Planning Office for two co-op terms. This position allowed me to develop my passion in ecology, geospatial analysis and environmental planning, as I was responsible for the wildlife monitoring program in the Central Region of Ontario. During my undergraduate degree at WLU, I completed a research project that used geographic information systems to analyze a decade of wildlife and vehicle collision data on Highway 69 in Northern Ontario. Using kernel density modelling, I was able to identify several hot-spot locations along the highway that would require mitigation in order to reduce the collisions. This allowed for the recommendation and construction of specific wildlife mitigation infrastructure by the Ministry of Transportation for the Northern Highways Program. Following this research, I was hired as a Road Ecologist and Geospatial Analyst by Eco-Kare International, where I was responsible for the 2016 Species at Risk monitoring and mapping along Highway 69 and Highway 400. I recently attended the Northeastern Transportation and Wildlife Conference in Lake Placid, New York to present the results of the 2015 and 2016 monitoring.
